Warren Haynes joined Grace Potter & the Nocturnals for a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Haynes made his surprise appearance during the last song before the encore break. In addition to the Stones cover, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals also did renditions of Heart’s “Crazy On You” and Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun,” as well as a crowd pleasing tease of Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer” during an acoustic “Falling or Flying.” The show was the second of the band’s two night run at the Beacon Theatre. You can watch a video of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals playing “Gimme Shelter” with Warren Haynes above.

Warren Haynes was dropping in at shows all over New York City this weekend. Haynes sat in with up-and-coming New Orleans rockers The Revivalists, who opened for Gov’t Mule during a stops on their last tour, for a cover of Dr. Dre’s “Forgot About Dre” at the Brooklyn Bowl on Friday night. Haynes will be returning to the Beacon Theatre in New York City for Gov’t Mule’s New Year’s Eve shows December 30-31.
