Wayne Coyne and Steve Drozd of The Flaming Lips will star in a one-hour radio special this weekend. The program, “Wayne Coyne’s Human Head-Shaped Tumor” will be a continuous play radio drama similar to Orson Welles’ famed “War of the Worlds” broadcast. The story will revolve around an imaginary, human head-shaped tumor that grows on Coyne’s leg and speaks to him. The cast will include Coyne and Drozd, as well as Coyne’ wife Michelle Martin-Coyne, Flaming Lips manager Scott Booker, Jack Hitt of This American Life and actor Paul F. Tompkins. The broadcast will include new songs by The Flaming Lips, Okkervil River, Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, Eleanor Friedberger, Bill Calahan, Nico Muhly, members of Oneida and more. “Wayne Coyne’s Human Head-Shaped Tumor” will be broadcast on November 24 and 25 at 5pm PST on KCRW 89.9FM in Los Angeles. People outside of Los Angeles will be able to tune in on KCRW.com.
