Medeski Martin & Wood’s John Medeski is currently working on a new, solo piano album. While his album is still in the works, Medeski will preview material from the forthcoming release during a few solo upcoming solo performances, including a set at Evanston, IL’s Pick Staiger Hall at Northwestern University on
Thursday, November 29. “Solo concerts allow me to go deeper, to enter an inner universe, and bring some people along for the ride,” Medeski said in a statement. “You can work with sound and rhythm in a different way than in a band setting. It allows for a much more intimate experience. It’s a chance to connect in a new way with that fundamental feeling that made me want to play music in the first place. When you connect with that, you can play with true freedom and openness, because everything will come from the deep place inside you where music comes from.”

He goes on to say, “What’s music for? Making money? Entertainment? No. Music is a language, one that exists between the land of emotion and the land of intellect. It’s about creating vibration, an energy. Music is for healing and transformation.”

Medeski will join the rest of MMW and John Scofield for two shows next month. The performances will take place at Denver, CO’s Ogden on December 7 and Boulder, CO’s Boulder Theater on December 8.
