Femi Kuti Announces U.S. Tour Dates

Femi Kuti and the Positive Force will hit the road to preview material from their latest album No Place for My Dream in January. The record, which is the follow up to Kuti’s Grammy-nominated Africa for Africa will be released some time in 2013. With No Place for My Dream, Kuti hopes to get back to the essence of Afrobeat, a sound pioneered by his father Fela Kuti in the 1960s. The album was produced in Paris by Sodi, who worked on a number of the elder Kuti’s albums as well. Femi Kuti and the Positive Force will kick off their tour on Jam Cruise on January 7. The group will then hit Florida and the West Coast before making their way to the East Coast with shows in Philadelphia, Washington, DC and New York City. A full list of Femi Kuti and the Positive Force’s tour dates can be viewed below. You can read a review of their last album, Africa for Africa, here.

No need to skip any other shows, but yes, you should see Femi Kuti. Though it’s definitely it’s own thing, I think Afrobeat will appeal to just about anyone who’s into jambands.
