Brazilian flautist Carlos Malta joined Dave Matthews Band last night at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ. The guest appearance took place during “Jimi Thing,” a song that has seen a number of sit ins over the years from artists like Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes and Dicky Betts. It was the third time that Malta has played with Dave Matthews Band. The flautist joined the band on stage for “Say Goodbye” in his native Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on September 30, 2008. That concert was released as the DMB live album Live in Rio in 2010. Malta also sat in on “#41” during their August 10, 2010 show in Rio de Janeiro. You can watch a video of that collaboration above. The set list from yesterday’s performance can be viewed below.

Last night’s show was the second of the Dave Matthews Band’s winter tour, which kicked off with a two night run at the IZOD Center. As previously reported, the band pledged $1 million for Hurricane Sandy relief and turned the first concert of their tour into a fundraiser for the Bama Works Sandy Relief Fund. Dave Matthews Band will make an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tomorrow night before making their way to Louisville, KY for a show at the KFC YUM! Center on December 4.
