Phil Lesh Quintet Honors John Lennon

The Phil Lesh Quintet paid tribute to John Lennon on the 32nd anniversary of his death last night with a cover of The Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” The band, which includes Lesh, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, John Molo and Rob Barraco, played the song during their encore at Terrapin Crossroads. It was the third show of a four night run that will come to a close this evening.

In addition to the Beatles song, the Quintet also played George Harrison’s “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)” and Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic,” as well as the Phil Lesh tune “Night of a Thousand Stars.” The track appeared on Lesh’s 2002 release There and Back Again, an album that featured the Phil Lesh Quintet lineup. You can check out the full set list from last night’s show below. A video of the band performing “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” can be viewed above.

The Phil Lesh Quintet will play the final gig of their four show reunion run tonight. Fans can watch the event, which will be webcast via the Terrapin Crossroads store, for $7 here. You can also check out the article on the Phil Lesh Quintet from the June-July 2002 issue of Relix here.

Birdsong was changed to be a Lennon tribute too. . . “All I know is something like a bird within HIM sang. . All I know is HE sang a little while and then flew off”

@pigkinfly- you may be overreaching there… that was something the Q always did- one verse for Janice, one for Jerry.
