Medeski Martin & Wood reunited with John Scofield for a two-night Colorado run this past weekend. On Friday night, MSMW performed at Denver’s Ogden Theatre and busted out a few different covers. Four songs into the night, after dusting off their classic “A Go Go,” MSMW reworked the Grateful Dead’s “Scarlet Begonias,” a song Medeski and Scofield recently performed at San Rafael, CA’s Terrapin Crossroads as members of Phil Lesh & Friends. The song led into a cover of Peter Tosh’s “Legalize it,” which took on special significance after Colorado legalized marijuana in November. Later in the night, MSMW performed The Beatles’ “Julia,” which they recorded for their 2006 album Out Louder. The number doubled as a tribute to John Lennon, who died on December 8, 1980.

On Saturday, the quartet performed at Boulder, CO’s Boulder Theater. The band performed a number of covers throughout the night, including Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself,” “Amazing Grace” and Ray Charles’ “I Got a Woman,” among others.

MMW will kick off a multi-night run at New York’s Blue Note tomorrow.
