Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2013 Inductees

Rush, Albert King, Public Enemy, Heart, Randy Newman, Donna Summer, Lou Adler and Quincy Jones have been chosen as the 2013 inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The news was announced today via the museum’s website and social media. As previously reported, 2013 inductees were the first to be decided in part by an online fan voting process. This year’s nominees that did not make the cut were: The Meters, Kraftwerk, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, N.W.A., Procol Harum and The Marvelettes. The 2013 induction ceremony will be held at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on April 18. Tickets to the event will go on sale to the public on January 25 and can be purchased here. The ceremony will be broadcast on HBO on May 18.

I used to get upset about who isn’t getting the nod. Now, I think it’s just sad and a bit funny. I also learned today that N.W.A. in fact was in fact a rock band.

How can the Meters not make the cut but Donna Summer does? Who is voting for this stuff? Do they even have ears?

The RnR HOF and the induction ceremonies are a grand celebration of modern popular music. It should never cause anger or negativity. If great bands seemingly get “snubbed” it doesn’t in any way diminish their greatness or mar your memories of them. That said…i wish the Meters had gotten in this year. They are a lock down the road.

Time for a re-launch. This is no longer the R&RHOF. It is the Billboard Museum. I call on Chuck D to step up and refuse the award.

putting in NWA is an insult to the hall Joan Jett & the Blackhearts had more fan poll votes than they did so did the fan poll votes not even count ? lets get line up for for 2014 Joan Jett, the late Stevie Ray Vaugn & Double Trouble, The Monkees, George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers, Kiss, Cheap, Trick, Reo Speedwagon Ringo Starr ( only Beatle not inducted as thee other 3 have been as solo Artists ) . 38 Special, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, Chad & Jeremy, Peter & Gordon, any arist from 50;s who;s not in already, The Osmonds, The Partridge Family, The Cowsills, The DeFranco Family if these so called rap “ aritists “ want to be in the hall let them make their own & leave R&RHOF to REAL muscians

DrasticJasper December 11, 2012, 17:13:56

kip December 11, 2012, 18:57:03

I am super stoked that Rush made it in, it was long time coming. Having said that, “WHAT IN THE HELL IS THE ROCK-N-ROLL HALL OF FAME THINKING, THEY ARE GONNA INDUCT PUBLIC ENEMA &DONNA SUMMER AND NOT DEEP PURPLE? Come on man!

mark December 11, 2012, 20:26:58

DRASTIC LEAVE MICHAEL JACKSON OUT OF THIS, that man can fucking dance! he belongs in all halls including sports

KYLE December 11, 2012, 21:00:47

Was at Public Enemy show last night and they told the crowd of their induction. They seemed super pumped about being put into the RNRHOF. Then killed it on stage. Those guys still bring it.

I AM VERY UPSET THAT DONNA SUMMER GOT INDUCTED IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME WHEN SHE WAS DISCO GIRL,AND FOR HEART THEY ARE NOT ROCK IN ROLL AT ALL THEY HAVE NOT PERFORMED FOR 10 YEARS. JOAN JETT STARTED HER OWN BAND AND LABEL THE BLACKHEARTS. LET’S GET REAL JOAN JETT AND IS A TRUE ROCK AND ROLL AND FANTASTIC PERFORMER, SHE WAS A PROFESSIONAL PERSON AND HAS DONE OVER 63 TOURS FOR THE USO, I WILL NEVER LISTEN TO HEART AGAIN THEY AND JUST A FLYBY NIGHT. PLUS JOAN JETT WROTE HER FIRST SONG AT 15 YEARS OLD. I THINK WOMEN CAN PLAY HARD ROCK AND ROLL JUST AS WELL AS ANY MAN. I DISAPPOINTED THE ROCK AND R0LL HALL OF FAME IS SO MAN ORIENTED. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND BY THE WAY I AM 65 YEARS AND YOUR ORGANIZATION IS HORRIBLE. YOU KNOW JOAN JETT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INDUCTED BUT THE ORGANIZATION IS RUN BY MEN. MEN ARE FRIGHTEN BY SUCH A GREAT LADY AS JOAN JETT.

Please…I know in the jam world the Meters are gods, but Donna Summer was huge in the 70’s. She sold more records than the Meters by far. The Meters are a good funk rock outfit, but they are not Icons of a particular genre. By my estimation they are meh. By industry standards they arent anywhere near Donna Summer. I am not sure if you noticed, but the RRHF is not judging by the content of the music. If they did, then YES would be a shoo in. As would numerous other great acts who they have shunned. But even by funk rock standards, the Meters are only meh. They arent Funkadelic, James Brown, The Bar Kays or any of the other acts that were around back in the day. The meters have longevity going for them though. But they werent the star that Donna Summer was….thats why the jamband world is mainly clueless….if you think MOE. or SCI is good, then you should think twice about being a music critic…..

Charles Brown December 12, 2012, 04:59:52

How did Joan Jett even get on the ballot….puke. Its barely music.

Charles Brown December 12, 2012, 05:02:26

Deep Purple….meh by 60;s and 70’s standards….Richie Blackmore was medium compared to his peers. No wonder folks here love Moe.

Jack Straw December 12, 2012, 07:54:13

Charles you have been hanging out with Snoopy & the gang too long! Many Jam bands are better thren this year’s inductee’s & better then a large portion of the ‘‘bands’‘ already inducted.

charles browns What? December 12, 2012, 12:29:47

you should probably re-think your meters comment

Mack December 12, 2012, 15:26:34

The fact that The Meters did not make it is ridiculous and a crying friggin shame.

paco December 12, 2012, 15:30:41

The real snub is Ted Nuggent!

Brown sucker December 20, 2012, 04:16:02

Guys like charles brown are the blinds talking about the colour of a rainbow! Just ridiculous!!

Marvelettes “Please Mr.Postman” along with the Miracles “Shop Around” helped put Motown on the map. Show stopping performers they were the girls before Martha and the Vandellas and Supremes. Many know their music but not their faces. “Forever”, “Don’t Mess With Bill”, Hunter Gets Captured By the Game” were some of their wonderful timeless tunes. They deserve a spot in the Rock HOF.

John B. Nicholson III May 19, 2013, 07:31:38

I cannot believe The Marvelettes were not inducted this year. Honestly speaking, the group should have been inducted the first year of the Hall of Fame. This group basically started Motown on its successful run. Had it not been for The Marvelettes, the Supremes and all the other Motown acts would not have existed, much less enjoyed such success. I ask: “What does it take to get The Marvelettes” this ultimate and well-deserved and earned recognition?” It is now time for someone of note to take this on as a project and make it happen. This is an absurd omission.

self May 19, 2013, 10:41:48

I was very disappointed to see the These great performer’s put in the same category as “Public Enemy “ please “ Wave yer hands in the air “ as Heart and Rush , were trying to sing over this stupid guy on the mics voice ! Changed the whole performance .

dave February 3, 2014, 23:53:22

When will the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame get it right? There is no other hard working group out there that have as many good rockin tunes as REO SPEEDWAGON!!! Stop pleasing the off brands and get a real Midwest pioneer! Elect the Speedwagon in 2014!

vince July 18, 2014, 14:09:30

How does Public Enemy get in and Phish doesn’t?
Phish still sells out 100 shows a year. Public Enemy could not sell out a pub in Filthadelphia.
