New Orleans’ Stooges Brass Band will play a Sandy relief event at PS 53 in New York City’s hurricane ravaged Far Rockaway neighborhood on Saturday, December 15. The project is sponsored by NOLA Pay It Forward, an effort by the city of New Orleans to show support for regions affected by Hurricane Sandy. The event, which begins at noon, will also include a community lunch featuring Louisiana cuisine like gumbo, jambalaya and shrimp pasta prepared by a number of award-winning chefs from New Orleans-area restaurants. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will be present to show support for the people of New York City. He will also thank firefighters from the New Orleans Fire Department, who will be completing their three-week volunteer deployment to the area.

As previously reported, NOLA Pay It Forward put on a benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Sandy last month. The show featured performances by Irvin Mayfield, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, The Stooges Brass Band, Khris Royal and more.
