Dead Ahead and Ticket To New Year’s Once Again

The Grateful Dead concert films Dead Ahead and Ticket To New Year’s will be re-released on February 12. Dead Ahead consists of footage from the band’s October 30 and 31, 1980 shows at Radio City Music Hall during their 15th anniversary run. The film is interspersed with comic bits from Saturday Night Live’s Deadhead duo: the late Tom Davis and Senator Al Franken. The audio has been remastered in 5.1 surround sound and all of the bonus material from the original 2005 DVD release will be included in the reissue.

Ticket To New Year’s documents The Grateful Dead’s December 31, 1987 New Year’s Eve performance at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. The concert, which was watched by thousands across the country as part of a national pay-per-view telecast, also included a parody cooking show featuring Jerry Garcia and Tom Davis as well as a sketch in which the band answered ridiculous questions from Deadheads in the audience. The DVD reissue also includes band member bios, a visible lyrics option and a special “Dead Facts” fan quiz. The tracklistings for both DVDs can be viewed below.

Tom Davis RIP, great comedy in both of these.

I watched the 87 New Years show with my brothers in Long Island & i loved every second of it. Great Birdsong > Music Never Stopped. But the highlight for me was an obviously baked & embarassed Larry Bird & Kevin McHale hanging back stage between sets. Hillarious.

Is there a link where they’ll be selling it? I don’t see it online anywhere on, etc.

Bummer the NYE show lacks the Neville/Dead collaboration…perhaps ramshackle but it was fun to watch…glad these are being re-released.
