The Black Keys will start work on a new studio album, according to an interview with BBC 6Music. The album follows late 2011’s El Camino.

In the interview Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney revealed that the 2012 Relix cover subjects would record in North Michigan this winter. Though the group has worked with backing musicians on tour, at this point only the core Black Keys due plan to enter the studio. Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach mentioned that the group will continue work on their forthcoming album in their adopted hometown of Nashville, TN later in the year. Danger Mouse—who has worked with The Black Keys on a number of projects since Attack & Release in 2008—is expected to contribute to the album.

The Black Keys will close 2012 with shows at Las Vegas, NV’s The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel on December 30 and 31. As previously reported, the duo sat in with The Rolling Stones on Saturday
