Jackie Greene to Play Lead Guitar for The Black Crowes, Live Album to Be Released in March

Jackie Greene will join The Black Crowes as a guitarist and vocalist during their recently confirmed tour dates. It appears that he will be replacing Luther Dickinson, who is currently touring with his longtime group the North Mississippi Allstars. The rest of The Black Crowes lineup remains the same, with Chris Robinson (lead vocals, guitar), Rich Robinson (guitar, vocals), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass) and Adam Macdougall (keyboards). Greene has played with Chris Robinson in the past as part of the Weir, Robinson & Greene Acoustic Trio, in addition to both being a part of the ever-rotating cast of Phil Lesh’s Friends. (In related Crowes news, Chris Robinson recently told Hittin’ the Note that Neal Casal—who is part of Robinson’s Brotherhood band along with Macdougall—almost joined the band as a guitarist back in 2005 but was bumped due to Marc Ford’s brief return to the group).

As previously reported, The Black Crowes announced the first leg of their 2013 “Law Down With Number 13” tour yesterday. Tickets for the first leg will go on sale January 11 at 10:13AM local time. The dates for the second leg of the tour will be revealed shortly. In addition to the tour dates, The Black Crowes have also confirmed that they will be releasing Wiser For The Time, a 26-track live album that will be available as a vinyl and digital download on March 19. The album contains 15 acoustic and 11 electric songs from their five-night NYC run in the fall of 2010. An acoustic version of the song “Under a Mountain”—which is not on the album— can be downloaded for free here.

just incase you didn’t think chris robinson and the black crowes sucked enough…... throw a fakeful dead bastard child in there that doesn’t know a lead guitar rift from firing off knuckle baby romance explosions on stage…..

Awesome! Would love to hear Luther with the Crowes again, but Jackie will fit in nice. tellsemlikeismellsem is a moron.

Hey tellsemlikeismellsem, it’s riff, not rift. Sounds like you dig rifts more than riffs anyway though.

Luther schooled Rich Robinson, Rich was obviously being outshined by a better over all guitar player, he was not going to let this happen again. Luther was ousted, he would have never turned down a good paying gig like that. These people have bills folks.

Luther opted out to follow his own path. It was amicable. Of course TBC would go for someone they are familiar with already (Trigger Hippy, Weir/Robinson/Greene). Makes sense and should be great.

tellsemlikeismellsem is an idiot and doesn’t have a clue, but in response to JG being the lead, wow, sounds like lots of ego trips going on …

Jackie plays w The Mother Hips alot, thats the band Chris helped get signed, incendiary band I fully recommend the album Shootout. Never was into Luthers round tone. Although, his work is fitting ont he records. Marc Ford has the edge, Audley great too, Paul Stacey liked also

Luther has other things on his plate right now like touring with the NMAS, he wasn’t ousted and he was there as lead guitarist for Rich so Rich wasn’t schooled, and as far as playing instruments go Luther is a Beast and Rich is great, Jackie will also be a great fit, also Luther does not need the money so leaving a paying gig wont hurt him , such nonsense Luther’s dad was the legendary Jim Dickinson who played on Wild Horses with the greatest R&R Band ever The Rolling Stones and the Greatest Album ever recorded Exile on Main Street, So what I am saying was Luther will be missed but Jackie will fit in nice.
