The Disco Biscuits kicked off their five-show New Year’s Eve run last night at the Best Buy Theatre in New York City. The band came out at a pproximately 9:30, with guitarist Jon Gutwillig saying that Santa Claus would not be sitting in as he took the stage in a red jumpsuit. The show started off with an unfinished “Abraxas” segued into an unfinished “Hot Air Balloon.” The jamming continued non-stop for most of the first set before the music finally reached its first pause after half of a dyslexic “Digital Buddha.” Set one ended with “Triumph” played into the end of “Rock Candy,” which the Biscuits had left unfinished during their December 17 show at Mayan Holidaze.

After a lengthy set break, the band remerged with bassist Marc Brownstein informing that crowd that drummer Allen Aucoin had written the night’s setlist. The band then got going right into the rest of “Digital Buddha, with the jam continuing through “Pilin’ It High” and an unfinished “Portal to an Empty Head.” After a quick pause, the Biscuits then closed things out with an inverted “Crickets” sandwiched between “Save the Robots.”

As previously reported, the Disco Biscuits will play four more concerts over the next five days, with three performances at the Best Buy Theater and one three-set show at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on New Year’s Eve. Tickets to those shows can be purchased here. Last night’s full setlist can be viewed below.
