The Avett Brothers played one of their biggest headlining shows to date on New Year’s Eve. The recent Relix cover subject celebrated the end of the year in their home state at Greensboro, NC’s Greensboro Coliseum. Dressed in white suits, The Americana group stacked their show with material from throughout their career as well as a cover of Jim Croce’s “Operator (That’s Not the Way It Feels).” The clock stuck midnight about halfway through The Avett Brothers’ New Year’s show, and the band jammed on “Geraldine” and “Auld Lang Syne” as 2012 came to a close.

Making use of their arena setting, on two occasions the members of The Avett Brothers moved to the back on the arena’s floor to play on a more intimate “b stage.” The evening came to a close with a generous encore that consisted of “Salvation Song,” “I Killed Sally’s Lover,” “Gimmeakiss” and “I and Love and You.”

The Avett Brothers will kick off a winter tour at Madison, WI’s Orpheum Theater on February 9. They have also confirmed an appearance at Merlefest on April 28.
