Bonnaroo Installs Permanent Solar Array

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has finished constructing and installing the first ever permanent solar array for a music festival. The 50kW solar photovoltaic system will support about 20% of Bonnaroo’s energy needs by generating more than 61,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. The project was funded by “opt-in” contributions that attendees selected during the ticket buying process. The “opt-ins” have existed for the past three years and have been used to fund the compost pad, the garden and last year’s mobile tower of power. A $1 fee was also added to the price of a ticket last year in order to build up funding for additional onsite green initiatives. The 2013 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival will take place June 13-16 in Manchester, TN, with the initial roster of artists expected to be announced over the coming weeks.

As someone who works for a solar installation company in TN, I say AWESOME to Bonnaroo for doing this, but kinda sad our company didn’t get the job!

Noice! I hope B-roo does what we’ve been doing at the Vibes for the past 12 years i.e. hand out personal compost bags. PCB’s baby! You’ll get over the grossness after you realize how hard you are saving the planet. Just catch your back end business in the PCB and huck it on your garden. personal compost dot com
