Tori Amos and Sam Mendes Team Up for The Light Princess

Following four years of development, the UK’s National Theatre has announced the premiere of The Light Princess, a new musical directed by Sam Mendes and featuring music and lyrics by Tori Amos. The musical is based on a 19th-century Scottish fairy tale involving a princess who is cursed to not be subject to the pull of gravity. The musical is scheduled to open in London in October of this year.

Not true: Mendes, who began his career in theater before moving into film, will direct a production of Shakespeare’s “King Lear” starring Simon Russell Beale and opening next January. It was originally slated for 2012, but delayed while Mendes made the James Bond adventure “Skyfall.”
