The Grateful Dead Hour‘s David Gans has confirmed details for the 27th annual KPFA Grateful Dead Marathon. This year’s festivities will take place from Saturday, February 23 at 9:00am to Sunday, February 24 at 1:00am. Hosted by Gans with help from Tim Lynch, the 2013 Marathon will feature exclusive music by the Mickey Hart Band, a live in-studio performance by Sycamore Slough String Band, interviews, hours of tasty audio featuring rare tapes from the Grateful Dead vault and other Dead-related treats.

“It’s music that makes people dance, cry, think,” Gans said in a 2011 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle ’s Carolyn Jones. “To play the Grateful Dead for 16 hours is not a tiring job. It’s actually very energizing. I could go even longer.”

The marathon will be broadcast locally on KPFA-FM 94.1 in Berkeley and KFCF-FM 88.1 in Fresno. It will also be webcast live here
