On Friday night, Howlin Rain and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe co-headlined Los Angeles, CA’s Rey Theatre. Not only did members of the two bands collaborate, but several additional performers sat in with Denson during his show-closing set.

For a good portion of Tiny Universe’s performance, The Cosmic Horns—Slightly Stoopid’s DeLa, Lettuce’s Eric Bloom and Andy Gibe—backed Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. When the horn section first emerged at the start of the band’s set, Dave Matthews Band/Lettuce trumpeter Rawshawn Ross also joined the horn section for “Apres Ski.” Ross returned a little later in the show for “Apparently.” Later in the evening, The Motet singer Kim Dawson took the stage along with the Tiny Universe and the Cosmic Horns for “Season’s Trees,” “Light My Fire” and “Stealin’.” Then, Howlin Rain frontman Ethan Miller sat in with the group on “My Baby.”

Dawson and The Cosmic Horns will both join KDTU at Ft. Collins, CO’s Aggie Theatre on February 21 and at Boulder, CO’s Boulder Theatre on February 22.
