Jim James celebrated the release of his full-length debut Regions of Light and Sound of God last night with a special performance at New York’s The McKittrick Hotel, the site of the interactive play Sleep No More. Fans were able to attend Sleep No More before James’ show. Like other attendees, James wore a mask during Sleep No More and wandered around the fictional The McKittrick Hotel. After Sleep No More wrapped-up, he performed a set with his solo band in the large space where the play’s final scene takes place. Sticking to this tour’s setlist, James performed Regions of Light and Sound of God in its entirety and returned for an encore featuring a mix of non-album material.

James is an outspoken Sleep No More fan and honored the special location by inviting out Stella Sinclair, the singer who performs as part of the show every night, during his encore. Sinclair sang on with James on Fats Waller’s “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie” and the Ella Fitzgerald hit “I’m Making Believe.” Then, James and his solo band closed the night with My Morning Jacket staples “Victory Dance,” “Wordless Chorus” and “Touch Me I’m Gonna Scream Parts 1 and 2.”
