How many times can you see a cover band?

PM February 22, 2013, 14:20:27

How much they charge for that cover band?

DPR February 22, 2013, 14:28:18

Dude if you don’t like the dead don’t hate. They are a very good group of musicians and is way better than the music coming out this days. SHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

me February 22, 2013, 14:31:47

Hey DPR... it’s not worth the bits to comment on someone like PM… some folks get their jollies being douchebags… caring less about music and more about eating shit sandwiches…

Alex February 22, 2013, 16:03:07

When is Ratdog coming back to NYC? I can’t stand Further. The drumming and the Jerry guy are distracting.

steve b February 22, 2013, 16:16:07

the drumming is distracting? are you out of your mind? Russo makes that band move

kyle February 22, 2013, 16:32:14

Really the cap 130 bucks fuck that and trey the meter men phish all put out better music than these guys and I paid less that 40 bucks to see them. 130 is straight greed especially for the cap bc there isnt a bad seat in the house and the sound is grreat even fro the bathroom. further=GREED And at least trey phish the meter men galactic wilco all play original music. I would rather see dso these days than listen to bobby fuck up every lyric and phil well he just sounds like a screetching cat. dnt get me wrong I lOVE the GREATFUL DEAD and these guys aint them 130 bucks I could see other bands 4 times.

CJimmy February 22, 2013, 17:47:55

Can you all just spell FURTHUR right before you bash on ‘em?

pugdog February 22, 2013, 18:12:44

@ KYLE...
You can’t even spell “GRATEFUL DEAD”...yet you “love” them? Pleeeease…crawl your troll self back under the bridge

kyle February 22, 2013, 19:03:45

@pugdog and C. Jimmy. I was on my phone on my break trust me ive seen more dead and furthur shows than both of you combined. sorry im a bad tu=yper have fun payin 130 for a cover band! oh and Im not the only one and the sell excuse is bs because the place hols like 1800 people

kyle February 22, 2013, 19:31:44

I love anyone that has a different opinion is a troll! Makes me laugh. Sold out or not Jerry Is Rolling in his Grave at $130 and trust be I know how to spell the grateful dead and furthur. oh crap now im in trouble for not using a capital letter for grateful and further. Yup I LOVE the dead at 65 been listening to the them since like 72. So all you guys and gals that never saw Jerry or the real scene are the true trolls

Cloudy Knight February 23, 2013, 09:23:01

It’s a nostalgia act. They should just take up residency in Vegas.

Like Furthur or not, they have it together and its the best Dead stuff in years. Dont forget Bob and Phil are Grateful Dead originals.

gypsydaveywithablowtorch February 25, 2013, 07:38:33

Hopefully all the haters are staying home. I will be going, partying my ass off and having a great time. I think its great that at their age, Phil and Bobby are still bringing it-I think they’ve earned the right to play in a “cover band.” Anyone putting down Russo is clueless when it comes to music.

kyle February 26, 2013, 14:47:56

I fully agree with everything gypsy has to say except the price. And Russo is the fuckin MAN!

Clifton Hanger February 27, 2013, 07:20:36

I love the Grateful Dead and Furthur and it is sad that some call themselves fans, but can’t spell their names. $130 is RIDICULOUS and I would never go at that price. I should get at least 2 tickets, parking, and a beer for that price. I think Furthur is a lot of fun and God Bless Bobby and Phil for keeping on Truckin’. Phil’s going to be what? 73? He’s got more energy then some folks half his age. Love those guys! At $130, i’ll save my money for Phish. Due to my age, I only saw Jerry 8 times live and could have bought 4 tickets for $130 back in the 90’s. What’s up with their high prices? Social Security not paying enough?

Tix for Atlantic City are $62. Cheap tix for the Capital are $65. The reason the Capital is so expensive is it’s a tiny theater.

gfred February 27, 2013, 11:32:09

I went to all 4 Colorado shows. They did not repeat a song, sounded fresh and very tight. The shows were Great. If you think they are a greedy cover band & whatever other stupid shit you said ~ stay home & keep blogging about shit you know nothing about. You’re clueless.
Glad you weren’t there.

Justin March 1, 2013, 02:37:09

I hate the comments about these guys being a cover band . They are all music geniuses, legends.I have been with them the day I first heard live dead.I have seen the grateful dead, the other ones, further fest, the dead, ratdog, phil, ect and I think there like a fine wine that gets better over time.Any person that does something as long as they have and keep doing would be great at it just like they are. I have listened to every song thousands of time and there all different genious .

erik March 1, 2013, 09:51:54

I saw the chicago furthur show last summer and I thought it was very good overall. I would love to see them again. On the other hand, the ticket prices were very high (high 70.00’s i think?) and now I see the prices for this NY run…wow….

gfred March 1, 2013, 21:27:45

Well said Justin ~ I’m a Veteran of over 200 Grateful Dead Shows going back to 9/21/72.
It’s better than ever ‘cause it’s here now and it matters to me. The rest can go fish.

joe March 2, 2013, 19:37:33

i really like the GD, and ratdog. but those prices are WAY too high, for just 2 orginal members. if it was all 4, plus jeff, and a good lead, id see chargin that much, but comeon you know phil and bob are just tryin to cash out before retiring.

fun times... March 3, 2013, 20:23:22

yo. I think its funny that the only song they mentioned Furhtur played was a ryan adams cover. Shit….I think a lot of people are making money off the cap show….phil or bob would sell it for like 65 and it would be at their personal venues. Just be happy they are coming out east…

Steve rain March 4, 2013, 07:33:00

how the hell is Furthur a cover band? they have two of the founding members of the Grateful Dead in the band….duh! Thank god they are still playing!!! Fuck all you haters go see sts9 or whatever the electronica buzz word is this week

Chucky cheese string March 4, 2013, 11:09:26

I think the real beef is the pricing for tix. I don’t care who you are, or where you are playing – $130 is alot to ask people to pay for a ticket. Is it worth it? I guess that is the opinion of the person paying for the tix. But for your average working class hero – $130 is alot for a night out. Peace!!

JP76 March 4, 2013, 12:44:13

It is too bad prices are so high, but Jesus it’s ridiculous for all these trolls to be bitching about us still having the opportunity to see Phil and Bobby play, surrounded by a top-notch professional band no less. Grateful Dead music is meant to be performed live, and thank God the core 4 have spent the last decade plus grooming a new generation of musicians to hopefully carry on the tradition of live Dead music in various forms after they’ve left the scene.

MalcolmO March 4, 2013, 19:28:32

Last year I made $159. That’s right, under $200. Last month I bought a pair of tix to Gaga that cost me $388. I can only WISH that Furthur would come to town for $130. They won’t. But at least I had a great time and a great date at Gaga.

Mitt R March 4, 2013, 21:57:02

Malcolm~you are part of the 47%. You need to get a job or become a mormon.

Chucky cheese string March 5, 2013, 11:41:59

@ Malcolm — you made $159 last year?? Or $159K last year??

MalcolmO March 5, 2013, 14:22:20

@Chucky I did indeed make $159.36 last year. Interest on my bank balance and my only income for 2012.

Susan March 5, 2013, 16:07:09

You had a great time and a great date, with who? I guess that would be ME. I had a great time with you toooo. Your great date. Susan

chip March 5, 2013, 18:14:57

I find it amusing that people that think Furthur is a cover band can go on to say that they saw Jerry and even think they know what they are talking about. TO kyle who saw more shows than anyone – “hey bud sitting in the lot as lot trash does not count” and I don’t believe anyone who ever saw shows could accidentally type “greatful” instead of “grateful” – it appears you gave it up reading the rest of the threads so yeah best you crawl back under your rock. Phil and Bobby are founding members of the Dead not a cover band. Furthur or Phil and Friends or Ratdog or The DEAD (2004) or Mickey and Billy (7 Walkers) etc are all blessings that we are fortunate enough to see. Keep your nasty ass opinions to yourself and please don’t goto the shows – the Phish lot is perfect for you.

JP76 March 5, 2013, 21:29:58

Right on, Chip. There’s a vocal minority out there that listens with their eyes instead of their ears – if they don’t see Jerry on the stage, their brains just stop working and they forget how to appreciate good music.

mb March 5, 2013, 21:51:03

Hate to say it but I spelled it Greatful Dead on one or two tapes way back when. Doesn’t mean I ain’t a deadhead, just kind of oblivious. The idea that Further is a cover band is silly. They sound great and full…

Sugaree March 6, 2013, 02:20:29

Phil and Bobby are not in it at this point for the money. They are doing what they love and trying to make it as good as it can be. They have spent years trying to get it as tight as they can and have taught these 3 guys playing with them as much as they can. They have added back up singers to help fill in where their voices won’t go anymore due to age. The Sweetwater 4 night run(all free in real time on web) was the tightest I have seen them and hopefully the capital shows will be more of the same. They have also been teaching anyone that is interested and good, or a kid of someone from their generation, or from a band that learned from the Dead how to play Grateful Dead music with them while they’re still here! (i.e. Jackie Greene, Lucas Nelson, Dave Schools) “Teach your children well…”
Too bad too many deadhead and non head parents didn’t do the same with their kids (i.e. chatters at Ratdog Sweetwater show 3/4/13)
Everyone is bitching about the prices…well when you do fewer shows it cost more than if you can spread it out over a lot of shows. If you can’t afford it or don’t think it’s worth it then don’t go! There will be plenty of people that will be happy to pay it. “Gotta get down to the cumberland mine…thats where I mainly spend my time…make good money $5.00 a day!!!” They are winding down, and that’s why they have their set ups now where they live. Soon it will be shows only at TXR, TRI, and The Sweetwater and maybe New Year’s run. Then you’re talking airfare, hotel, car, food, and tickets. So is it really that expensive for a show at the Cap??? While they’re still coming to you? “Shall we go? You and I while we can…..
Hope that puts it in to prospective for all of the whiners out there. Plus look at all the free shit they have been giving us over the interweb just in the last year or two alone. Add that in and it ain’t too bad. Been going since 85 and still one of the only games in town. Be Grateful…

I love you Sugaree! (We’ve now been on tour together for four frickin’ decades, girl!) Thanks for the conversation guys – interesting…. Watch the generalizations – whew! Phish Lot? Cover bands? 130 bucks? (You had me convinced that I owed my brother 130 bucks – & that’s just criminal!) I’m dying to know how Malcolm bought Gaga tickets for $388 when he only made $159 last year…. Hmmm! (Just because you write something down on your taxes doesn’t actually make it your income unless it’s the fucking truth! You’re supposed to count all of the cash you’ve made or been given! I know it sucks but taxes suck…).... And Bobby’s been screwing up lyrics since the day he joined The Band! So whatever with complaining about it now! Where were you in 1965? I’m so glad I read all this since it hit me that I also should shut my trap with my complaining about them playing only smaller venues – they sold out the Capitol in how many minutes? (I have to admit I’ve now complained about that way too much & would’ve gone on for the entire run with that negative jibe had I not reflected just now on Ultimatelywhogivesafuck’s ultimate message….).... So I’ll just say that I hope to see you all in Port Chester (I’m actually going to Some Kind Of Jam in Schuylkill Haven, PA, instead of AC), at the many awesome festivals coming down the road this year, & at The Gathering Of The Vibes so we can all come together & truly celebrate Jerry! Thanks again! Love you! Peace!
