A state legislator in New York is trying to name a road after legendary The Band drummer Levon Helm. Democratic Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, who represents the part of Ulster County that Helm called home before his passing last year, has introduced legislation to rename an area road “Levon Helm Memorial Boulevard.“The bill calls for the stretch of State Route 375 between the intersections of Route 28 and Route 212 in Woodstock, NY to be rechristened. The legislation does not yet have a sponsor in the Senate.

Earlier this month, Mumford & Sons, Elton John, T Bone Burnett, Mavis Staples, Zac Brown and Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard honored Helm with a performance of “The Weight” at the 55th annual Grammy Awards. You can watch the video of that tribute here.
