Yoko Ono celebrated her 80th birthday with a sold-out Plastic Ono Band concert at the Volksbühne in Berlin last Saturday. The group was led by Ono’s son, Sean Lennon, and featured Wilco’s Nels Cline, among others. There were several special guests who joined the band on stage at the birthday show, including Michael Stipe, Robyn Hitchcock and Rufus & Martha Wainwright. The musicians all sang “Happy Birthday” to Ono in English and German, and the show closed with the John Lennon classic, “Give Peace a Chance.”

In related news, Ono’s retrospective Half-A-Wind Show opened in Frankfurt on February 15, and will tour to major museums in Denmark, Austria and Spain over the next year. The touring show will showcase her career as an avant-garde artist and will feature close to 100 installations, films, drawings and writings.
