Fans who made it out to last night’s last-minute New Mastersounds show at the Brooklyn Bowl were treated to a slew of special guests. The concert, which was the band’s fourth show at the venue in four days, featured sit ins from Nigel Hall, Alecia Chakour (Warren Haynes Band), Cheme Gastelum (Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, 20th Congress) James Casey (Lettuce, Trey Anastasio Band), Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band), Igmar Thomas, Bryan J (Pimps of Joytime) and Nikki Glaspie (Dumpstaphunk).

Gastelum, Casey, Cressman and Thomas formed a horn section that added a second layer of sound to the New Mastersound’s funky grooves on “You Got It All,” “Gimme Some More,” “Winsjammer” and “Nervous.” Gastelum even took the stage with his flute for “Summercamp.” Chakour provided vocals on “All We Can Do” and “You,” and Nigel Hall hopped on the keys briefly at one point. Nikki Glaspie stole the show for a minute or two when she took over the drum kit from Simon Allen toward the end of the set, and Bryan J played guitar on “Wrap It Up.”

As previously reported, Gastelum and Chakour both joined The New Mastersounds on stage during their shows at the Brooklyn Bowl on Friday and Saturday night too. Those shows, as well as the Saturday afternoon gig, were all played before a packed house. The band announced that they would ne playing again on Monday at the end of Saturday’s show.
