A South by Southwest panel will celebrate Miles Davis’ 1969-1970 quintet. The so-called “lost quintet”—which consisted of Davis, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Chick Corea, bassist Dave Holland and drummer Jack DeJohnette.—was never recorded in the studio. As previously reported, the quintet’s music is finally able to reach a wider audience with the release of Miles Davis Quintet — Live in Europe 1969: The Bootleg Series Vol. 2, which features unreleased recordings from Davis’ 1969 European tour. The quintet and the new compilation will be discussed at the panel, which will take place on March 14 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm in Room 13AB of the Austin Convention Center in Austin, TX.
