Deep Banana Blackout played their first-ever show at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre last night. Kung Fu opened the night and the entire band joined Deep Banana Blackout on “God Made Me Funky” and “Bringin Up The Rear” at the end of their first set. The former song also featured Matt Jampole on cowbell.

A number of other collaborations took place during the show, too: Jesse Gibbon sat in on keys for “Ying Yang,” and guitarist James “Fuzz” Sangiovanni’s wife Carrie sang on “Hear My Song” early during the band’s second set. Later, horns came out for “Too Funky In Here” and the band dedicated a rendition of The Band’s “The Weight” to Rick Danko. (Deep Banana Blackout were originally supposed to play the Capitol Theatre in August of 1997 as a supporting act for The Band, but the gig was cancelled when Danko was arrested with drugs in Japan.) The night then came to a close with all of Kung Fu joining DBB onstage for the evening’s encore, which consisted of Funkadelic’s “Standing on the Verge of Getting It On” and “Boot.”
