Bernie Worrell Raising Money For Tour Van via Kickstarter

Parliament-Funkadelic keyboardist/composer and longtime Talking Heads collaborator Bernie Worrell has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $25,000 for a 15-seat touring van. The vehicle is needed so that the Bernie Worrell Orchestra can promote their new album, which will be released in 2013. The band has been unable to reach as many cities as they would like to because of their inadequate travel situation, which usually consists of all the musicians, their instruments and gear packed into a few small cars. They would like to be able to play for a larger audience, but they need a new van and a trailer hitch in order to make it feasible.

As an incentive for people to donate, the Bernie Worrell Orchestra is offering a number of goodies like signed CDs, unreleased songs, a Skype session with Worrell himself and an original studio reel from a 1978 Parliamnet recording session. The band also promises to use the power of social media to find out where Worrell’s fans are located so they can better choose which cities and venues to play. You can visit their Kickstarter page to contribute or to learn

Hate to break the news folks, but bernie worrell smokes crack on the regs…I love the guy’s music, but he’s an emaciated skeleton of a human being from years of party abuse…. I think he should just keep shredding behind kimock…. you have to sell more tickets to play for bigger audiences…. getting a bigger party bus won’t fix ticket sales…... what an ass backwards idea….

In response to “tellsemlikeIsmellsem!!!!!!”. I’m sorry you are deeply misinformed about Bernie Worrell’s current state. As one of Bernie’s friends I can tell you that he is healthy and dedicated to inspiring fans. Musicians in Bernie’s situation suffer from ignorant comments like yours. Everyone is entitled to an option but you’re just stating inaccurate information. For those who care to learn more about what Bernie is up to check out the Bernie Worrell Orchestra.

Man, you naysayers and haters are ill. Besides the fact that Bernie is healthy as a horse, there are plenty of other artists who have gone on Kickstarter with successful campaigns for getting a tour van or a tour bus (Boots Riley from The Coup is one recent example). Why even bother commenting if you don’t have anything positive to say. I’m backing this campaign for sure.

Bernie has NEVER smoked crack. You are sadly misinformed or malicious. I would know as I am his wife!!! If he smoked crack, he’d have been out the door and out of the marriage. Nobody is asking for a bus (tour/party or otherwise). Bernie has Osteopenia which went undiagnosed for years because it is largely associated with “little old, thin white women” which I assure you he is not!!! Didn’t your mom teach you “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all”?????

mixed feelings on the whole thang March 9, 2013, 10:53:59

many of our favorite musicans have or still do use drugs (similar to those of us who attend their concerts) what i guess bothers me the most is that this rock funk legend who has played with some of the best for what over 40 years is in a situation where he doesnt have the financial capability to tour with his new band like he wants too… The Mclovins should be doing a kickstarter for a van (no disrepect meant to them) not Bernie Worrell- something is not right…quick everyone stop going to the Lumineers and Mumford and Shows-

Also thought I’d merntion that it seems Bernie Worrell is being very generous on his thank you gifts. $25 gets you an autographed copy of his album Vinyl, Amazon wanted that much for unsigned copy. There are also digital copies of his music, 2 albums for $15, much better deal than itunes, exclusive T Shirts, gold record award, many other items including some rare memorabilia, if you’re getting married and wanted to hire a 9 piece party band 6K for BWO seems like a steal. Again compared to many other kick-starter pages the rewards are really great.

Much of the most celebrated music through time has been the result of patronage. Those ridiculing show their vast ignorance.

Saw the Houston show 3/15, I’ve been seeing shows for 40 years and Bernie many times….this may have very well been the best show I have ever seen! What a monster bass player he has !! I found Bernie after the show to be very humble, very nice, and signed autos for me !!! I offered to get the band high on psychedelics and they turned me down, said it was too hard to give us a great show stoned..we are the ones who went out past Saturn….and Bernie fucked our heads up really good ! We love you Bernie !!! Keep up the good work !
