Jon Graboff sat in with Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers during their long set at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom last night. The Ryan Adams and the Cardinals pedal steel player joined the breakout singer and her band six songs into their show. Before he took the stage, Bluhm introduced a musician from Seattle who had flown in just that morning and played her “second favorite instrument.” The instrument was the pedal steel guitar and the player was Graboff, who has also performed and/or recorded with the likes of Willie Nelson, Norah Jones, David Byrne, Yo La Tengo and Phil Lesh, among others. Bluhm informed the audience that her and husband Tim Bluhm met Jon when they were playing Terrapin Crossroads with Phil Lesh and Adam MacDougall (Chris Robinson Brotherhood) last year. Jon joined Nicki Bluhm and Gramblers for four songs, the highlight of which was a very touching rendition of Kenny Loggins’ “Danny’s Song.” The rest of the setlist can be found below.
