Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band Cover Kenny Chesney, Game of Thrones

Phil Lesh joined his sons Brian and Grahame last night for their Terrapin Family Band show at Terrapin Crossroads. The night included a take on the Kenny Chesney/Grace Potter duet “You & Tequila,” which featured an appearance by Emily Sunderland on vocals. The singer also joined the band for “The Midnight Hour” later in the set, which saw Jason Crosy sat in on fiddle for “Birdsong,” “Uncle John’s Band” and “The Wheel” as well. In an interesting twist, the show also included an encore cover of the Game of Thrones main title music, which segued into “New Speedway Boogie.” If these videos are any indication, it looks like Phil was having a lot of fun rocking out with his sons last night.

Lesh spoke about his interest in modern country music during a recent interview with Relix. The bassist explained that he’s “been listening to country music recently: Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and especially this band Little Big Town.”

The Game of Thrones cover was also an interesting choice, seeing as the new season of the popular HBO television series starts tomorrow.
