Eric Clapton with Hubert Sumlin

Eric Clapton will open his semi-annual Crossroads Guitar Festival with an acoustic set, according to Rolling Stone. For the first time, Crossroads will take place in New York. It will be held at Madison Square Garden on April 12 and 13.

Slowhand will open the two-night event with a special acoustic set at 7:30 on April 12. He will also sit in with The Allman Brothers Band, who will serve as the opening night’s headliner. Then, Clapton will headline Crossroads on April 13.

Clapton performed with The Allman Brothers Band for the first time in 2009 as part of the Southern jamband’s 40th anniversary run at New York’s Beacon Theater. ABB founder Duane Allman performed with Clapton’s seminal Derek & the Dominoes outfit while current ABB guitarist Derek Trucks toured as part of his band a few years ago.
