Justin Verson of Bon Iver fame debuted his band, The Shouting Matches, on Thursday night at Pappy & Harriets in Pioneertown, CA. The blues-rock outfit played before a crowd on 50-60 people at the secret show, which wasn’t announced until the last mintue. The band, which also includes Megafaun’s Phil Cook and Peter Wolf Crier’s Brian Moen, had a sound remniscient of Vernon and Cook’s old roots/jam outfit DeYarmond Edison.

The Shouting Matches was originally conceived as a duo with Vernon and Moen back in 2008. The group was put on the backburner while Vernon focused on Bon Iver, but it looks like the band has now returned as a trio with Cook included. The Shouting Matches are performing at both weekends of Coachella, and their debut album Grownass Man will be released soon.
