A number of collaborations took place at Live Oak, FL’s Wanee Music Festival yesterday. The first big one came during the final song of Gov’t Mule’s set, when Widespread Panic’s John Bell, Dave Schools, JoJo Hermann and Jimmy Herring all joined in on a cover of Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer.”

Members of Gov’t Mule returned the favor later in the night, when multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis sat in with Widespread Panic for a rendition of JJ Cale’s “Ride Me High.” Warren Haynes later joined the band for the last three songs of their set, including ZZ Top’s “Jesus Just Left Chicago,” Funkadelic’s “Maggot Brain” and their own “Chilly Water.”

The Allman Brothers Band were joined by a number of friends during their set as well. John Bell and former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle sat in for a take on Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home.” Next, Jimmy Herring took the stage to help out on a set closing “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” Pyle and the North Mississippi Allstars’ Luther and Cody Dickinson then joined in for the encore, Sonny Boy Williamson and Elmore James’ “One Way Out.”

In addition, Robert Randolph, Butch Trucks and Oteil Burbridge joined the North Mississippi Allstars on their tune “Shake What Yo Mama Gave You” earlier in the day.

The Wanee Festival will wrap up tonight with performances by Tedeschi Trucks Band, Widespread Panic, The Allman Brothers Band and Galactic & Friends.
