More Sit Ins at Wanee

Last night, Widespread Panic and The Allman Brothers Band brought out some special guests during their performances on the final day of Live Oak, FL’s Wanee Festival. Gov’t Mule’s Danny Louis joined the Allmans toward the end of their set for “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” and “Good Morning Little School Girl,” as well as for the “One Way Out” encore. Gregg Allman keyboardist Bruce Katz, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band guitarist Jr. Mack and Tedeschi Trucks Band drummer JJ Johnson also sat in on a set-closing “Southbound.”

In addition, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and Artemus Pyle all took the stage with Widespread Panic for a cover of Van Morrison’s “I’ve Been Working.” It was the first time the band played the song since July 11, 1998. Trucks then stuck around for a set closing take on Tom Waits’ “Going Out West” into “Fishwater.”

There were other sit ins throughout the day as well. Warren Haynes and Artimus Pyle helped Michael Franti with “Long Drive Home” in the afternoon. Galactic were also joined by a few friends for their late night set, including Skerik, Tedeschi Trucks trombonist Maurice Brown, Revivalists saxophonist Rob Ingraham, Papa Mali and Artimus Pyle. Revivalists frontman David Shaw also sang on a number of tunes like “Heart of Steel,” “I Am The Walrus“and “You Don’t Know,” as he has been doing for a number of Galactic’s recent shows.

Galactic closing it out with a Zep cover was sick. Best festival around for my money.

Somebody missed “Whipping Post” on the ABB set…right before Southbound.
