John Kadlecik Posts Statement on Bob Weir’s Collapse

John Kadlecik has posted a statement regarding Bob Weir’s collapse last night during Furthur’s performance at The Capitol Theatre. A post on the Furthur guitarists Facebook page reads:

1st reaction: holy shit, man down!

Then, I see several crew racing to help, going to be by his side faster than I can put my guitar down…

Next thought: what is Phil going to do? He’s playing on… Bobby had help at this point, so the next person in need of support was Phil…

Pretty f*d up moment… but Bobby wanted to finish the show!

Sometimes the rock n roll life is not all rainbows & fairy dust…

While we can’t find the original post for this next statement, multiple sources have reported that Kadlecik also posted the following response:

Bob (weir) wanted to play… if Phil, the crew & management couldn’t talk him out of it, you think i have some magic power? This wasn’t overpartying, btw, it was accidentally taking an ambien instead of a painkiller… the shoulder injury is real, & the white guitar just showed up the last couple of shows because it only weighs 3 or 4 lbs

As previously reported, Bob Weir collapsed on stage during the second set after struggling through the final show of Furthur’s nine-night run at The Capitol Theatre last night.

Good for JK to give the fans his perspective and wipe away the erie silence from those most in the know. Get well, Bobby, and we hope to see you in AC!

Margot DeMilto April 26, 2013, 17:29:28

Feel better Bobby !
Thank you, for soooo many good times !
Hope you’re feeling good enough to rock us all in AC !

AltheaRose April 26, 2013, 23:27:54

Good for JK for saying something believable. (True, partially true or not, at least it shows some respect for the fans.) I haven’t seen everything, but the p.r. on this is being handled horribly. No one expects full disclosure, but at least respect the fans enough to say something that makes sense to anyone over age 10. Who’s in charge of it? Sgt. Schultz (“I see nothing”)? Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf? (That guy from the Iraq invasion who claimed there was no US presence there as troops marched behind him …) Get better, Bobby. And get better advice, Furthur. We respect you guys a lot. Please respect us back. Thank you.

Yes clearly Bob took the 500mg ambien as opposed to the 500 mg tramadol. The 1/5 of wild turkey had nothing to do with any if this

Rob April 27, 2013, 01:19:36

Always worried when its the left side of the body. Hope it wasnt a stroke.

timmy April 27, 2013, 10:13:07

If it was a stroke, we’d know. He would’ve immediately been rushed to the er. Ambien is a fucked up big pharm drug. Not sure what happened but definitely no stroke.

mike the plumber April 27, 2013, 10:52:34

rest after the a/c show on the jersey shore is just what you need !!!

DeadMan April 27, 2013, 10:59:27

Given so much of yourself lately (acoustic shows).... Take time, heal, join us in the pit for awhile! Get better!!!

dk70 April 27, 2013, 13:41:50

Does this “incident” have an official name yet? “Fallgate” , “Spillgate”, Does CNN have coverage with full a graphic banner? What a joke.

marty the old guy April 27, 2013, 15:05:22

Just saw this thread…wishing Bobby the best and thanks to jk for shedding some light…we’ve seen garcia stumbling a bit, impressed that the show went on, but as we all approach 70, we must be careful…peace and love!

tribe of dead April 27, 2013, 15:25:04

hmm..first bobby was “dosed” last year, now he accidentally took the wrong med and we are supposed to believe all is ok??
Bobs been around the block and isn’t going to around mistakenly taking drugs before shows. Its obvious he has a problem with alcohol/drugs. Age I’m sure doesnt help but he other members are covering for him. Not cool. Anything to stay on the road, i guess has always been the dead motto

Rockin Robin April 27, 2013, 16:39:57

F U tribe of dead…..he has went a lot FURTHER than you!!

NYC Hippie April 27, 2013, 17:34:30

We already lost Jerry and other Ultra Valuable members of the Grateful Dead.
In light of all unselfishley concerned;
Dear Bob,
If ya need or even just want to take some time off, please take it and take care of yourself first!
Screw A/C and all the inconsiderate selfish a-holes that care more about themselves seeing a show than someone elses health and well being!
You’ve given us way more than your fair share of energy and enjoyment over the years.
Knowing you’re up to performing and are out doing it is great but knowing you’re living and enjoying a good quality of life is way more important.
Thank you for all the goodness you’ve spread and please be well and happy!

Two Cents Worth April 27, 2013, 18:00:09

Sad to here and see. Who is Bob’s doctor Conrad Murray? Furthur won’t put on the brakes…why? because it is a BIG PAY CHECK for the band and crew. They did the same thing to Jerry Garcia, didn’t stop to address the issue. They just kept rolling along because everyone needs that money. Time to stop booking gigs and address the issues.

Jed April 27, 2013, 20:31:32

Easy now! Bob has plenty of time to reast. Furthur doesn’t play much and the boys are usually in the Bay Area around their home. Phil and Bob usually are playing at there places. Anout Jerry. It was his decision to play that much. The band tried many times to talk to him about his problems. There are many good books to read about these things. Ummm you know Phil has a good one.

Dave Silva April 27, 2013, 21:03:25

Get well soon Bob!
Please recognize that “Bob must go on”, is more important than, “the show must go on”.

StacyD April 28, 2013, 00:14:58

F—- all of you that have the balls to comment
and criticize when there is no f in way you could possibly know the truth
Get a life
And no matter what the cause is
Bobby – wishing you all the best
and thanks for all the joy

Rondo April 28, 2013, 00:19:52

In a world where artists cancel shows over a hangnail… the band played on! Glad you’re ok Bob, thank you and take care. You too Phil! You’ve blessed us all with so much wonderful music for so many years, and yet some will still complain. Maybe they’re the ones talking over the music too!

timmy April 28, 2013, 01:48:48

@tribe of dead: you don’t know shit about Bobby and his personal life. Seriously, give the guy a break. So he fell over. Big fuckin deal. I guarantee you if there was a serious problem, it would be addressed. All this speculation and assumptions. It’s all bullshit. Get well, and keep truckin’ Bobby. Fuck all the naysayers. They don’t know you.

Bob Weir is a living legend….I find it funny that the haters criticizing him have never accomplished anything in their lives. Feel better soon Bobby!

Damn! Why all the hate? Since when did we become a tribe of people who couldn’t speak their mind and attacked those who did?
Too many pretenders on here. Don’t get me wrong.
Get well Bobby. (~);-} Peace freakies.

pam OLD & getting OLDER April 29, 2013, 13:37:24

I AGREE W THE ONES OF US who say take care of yourself first, it could be as simple as you need your eyes checked, could be more serious, SO, see a doctor, take a few minutes for yourself…... the will ALL....... appreciate it.

Chappy Jennings April 29, 2013, 14:55:50

Someone dosed him, he accidently took an ambien…Wake up folks. He’s obviously hitting the smack again.

the 12 step gazette April 30, 2013, 04:06:18

As a recovering drug addict AND a dead/furthur fan, I feel like people around Bobby are definitely giving him every opportunity to come clean if drugs are the problem. Also, if he needs some time off, the other members have enough of a life to give it to him. It’s Ace’s responsibility to surrender and get help if he needs to…or would even want to. Sometimes, “the bottom has a rocky reputation”...Joe Walsh (also a recovering addict). Bobby will do what he wants – most likely that is to play music for his fans as much as he can. Let’s just try to be those fans, not his parents, sponsor or even friends. Most of us have never even met him – to act like we know what’s best for Ace is ludicrous.

Tarver Shelton April 30, 2013, 19:03:42

The person that posted the Bob Weir video on You Tube of him collapsing last night originally put it as a Comedy Category ~ I sent them a note saying it isn’t a Comedy and Not Funny… This is there reply…. she sent to me… “”“WHY?? Because its God Damn HILARIOUS THATS WHY!! My God Man…. Bobby collapses cause he’s drunk…NO OTHER REASON PAL!! IT FCKN FUNNY!! If you don’t see the humor in it well then your missing out pal… Yeah its sad that’s he’s an alcoholic but….forget it, I can’t explain why this is funny…can’t do it…”“” This is the type people that do not belong at shows, they are only there for the Drugs or to be a Poser… No Respect what so ever

John Munson April 30, 2013, 19:28:10

I have been friends with Bobby over the years, and I seriously doubt he has any real drug or alcohol problem. I think the Ambien explanation is probably the most logical, perhaps mixed with alcohol, or perhaps it was just a muscle relaxer mixed with alcohol. Anyway, let’s all keep it positive, and no, watching him fall over is not funny in any way. The band should have stopped right away, and took him off stage as a group to a waiting ambulance, and then came back out to finish the show. Health/life, before party.

Joe Soucy April 30, 2013, 21:35:24

It’s a real shame to see this happen. Most bands have drug problems, from pre fab boy/girl bands to the sex pistols. unfortunately The DEAD Family has been plagued by them, Pigpen, Keith, The careless taken by the crew when Brent o.d. Never bought the Jerry died with a smile on his face while in rehab story. Bobby get help!

larry! April 30, 2013, 23:47:49

that is some awful stuff. stay cool. larry!

Todd May 1, 2013, 02:07:58

Bob is the youngest member of the legendary Grateful Dead! He, as well as all and any members of the band, has never stood for anything but peace, love and happiness!! A total icon and one of the few remaining of the 60s that still stand true and tall holding on and living the true times of “make peace not war” as it was back then! If only we all had that true American Standard and had the Balls to Act that way, then maybe our country would not be fulfilled and walk on eggshells afraid of the next terrorist act! God Bless Bob, Jerry and all those who stand the test of time of that error as you are all a GREAT EXAMPLE! All those negative comments do not know the true meaning of Peace and/or Love and can all eat shit! Those people are the ones that need to find the right path for reality and peace!

The Whale May 1, 2013, 15:19:23

With all the endless speculation , we all need to take a deep breath, take a few steps back, chill out and wish Bobby a complete and speedy recovery…. from what ails him ! Let the healing begin ….....

Chris T. May 1, 2013, 19:08:36

These comments should be about Kadlecik’s fb-post. Sounds very credible, esp. with respect to the light guitar.
it also sounds like he is trying to explain his and Phil’s UTTER lack of taking any notice.
“holy shit, man down”?
Not what it looked like in person, or more important, not noticeable in the video. Listen to the soundtrack without watching?
Can you even HEAR any reaction from the band (other than Bob’s not playing)?
Nope! I find that callous.
If they didn’t know anything was wrong even more so, because, then, you stop, period, like: oh damn. If they did know:
why not have a stool on stage already?
Plus he was visibly listing before he fell, and not just for a second.
Wait until he falls before rushing in?
Stupid, because you can hurt yourself very badly in the fall, esp. with the guitar keeping you from reaching for support. Whatever the answer though, I find the lack of reaction extremely questionable, and JK’s words seem very defensive to me.

natasha cez May 2, 2013, 00:49:32

By the way fake jerry backed off on bobbys two-stage stumble , I am thinking he is either trying to get the fake Bobby dood from dso in the band or he is one of those bobby haters. You know, the older deadhead type who says he hasn’t been to any Dead. music since Jerry died and won’t go until Bobby stops thinking he’s Jerry. You see it appears Bobby falls like me I fall in two stages …and the second stage is your head banging off the ground. that’s the one that will f*** you up and that’s the one fake jerry all but encouraged. I say,” man down “? Throw down that fake irwin and pick up your brother ! After all he is the sole reason you are here in the first place! one thing is for sure. once they made a terrible decision to continue playing t, chementi killed it one that unbroken chain!!! Either way Bobby’s handlers should be fired

natasha cez May 2, 2013, 00:50:59

Most importantly get well Bobby see you this summer!!!

Chris T. May 2, 2013, 09:26:20

I can’t see either JK or DSO in such a negative light, I think both do a decent job, given what shoes they’re trying to fill.
Then again, I also liked Warren with the Dead, and most here prob. hated him. Fully agree with the Chimenti comment, that was a really classy Bobby-on-keys fill.
Shows he really knows is stuff! As far as continuing on:
yeah that was weird, but it was only about 10:45, so understandable. What they should have done though, was not to play any more Dead tunes, but covers

Bill May 2, 2013, 10:53:03

Too much hate here people. Wish the man well and hope he takes care of himself over the next few months. Quit the speculation and respect his privacy. Can’t wait to see them back on the road in July playing that music we love. Enjoy it while we have it. We all have our moments. I’ll be counting down the days to PNC in July and Red Rocks in the Fall!

Lucy May 2, 2013, 12:46:59

Peace and love to all of you reading this. The world needs your compassion and so do you.

tribe of dead May 4, 2013, 19:46:48

Bobby pulled out of the next furthur show. Guess he accidentally took more ambian. We need to let this an get better and stop accepting cover ups from the band. This is what KILLED Jerry. Keep denying it till its too late

Loose Lucy May 8, 2013, 01:21:09

I completely agree that Phil & John K.‘s actions in ignoring Bobby’s collapse and continuing to play were callous and downright cruel. It was as if he were in the way of their show! And that was shocking. I found it most unsettling when considering that I have placed my precious mind in Phil Lesh’s hands so, so many times. I know the Dead have always been self-described assholes but I thought Phil had more love than he showed for Bobby that night.

after darkstar January 25, 2014, 08:56:42

being a deadhead for four plus decades, and having the opportunity to meet bob on more than one occasion,. I can tell you honestly that he was not a big purveyor of any drug , including mj. 50 +
years on the road man and not too many
fuckups, remember he was at every show. all you people that criticize. FUCK YOU.
