Furthur Cancels Next Date as Bob Weir Cannot Perform

Furthur have announced that they will not perform Napa Valley, CA’s BottleRock on Thursday, May 9. A statement on Bob Weir’s website has confirmed the following:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Furthur regretfully will be unable to appear as scheduled at BottleRock Napa Valley on Thursday, May 9. Grateful Dead & Furthur Co-Founder Bob Weir, is unable to perform in any capacity for the next several weeks. Bob looks forward to resuming his “Weir Here” broadcasts from TRI Studios in mid to late June and performing his Solo acoustic shows June 26-30. Furthur featuring Phil Lesh & Bob Weir look forward to returning to the road as scheduled on July 11 in Brooklyn for their Summer tour, which carries them through early October on the West Coast.

Get well, Bobby. The road will be there when you’re healed.

Feel better Bobby. Don’t let the hate get to you. All good vibes from Southern California.

Get well Bob. Sounds like you’ve done some soul
searching. BTR.....who needs your grooming tips? It’s
his appearance not yours. Perhaps you should
take Bob’s advice and STFU

Get well Bob! We love you!

breener April 30, 2013, 22:13:28

They should keep the show, replace Bob with Jackie Green. That was Phil’s band last November in NJ and NYC and they tore it up, Bob unfortunately not missed….

Justin April 30, 2013, 22:28:51

Get well soon Bob!

Bah April 30, 2013, 22:40:07

It’s no wonder all the staff at nvusd were given free tix for this night- the headliner is down for the count. Damn

drumz2space April 30, 2013, 22:42:10

All the people who pick on Bob should look at themselves. How many of you fucks have been at something for over 40 years. I’m pretty sure most of you knocking Bob never even saw the “Grateful” Dead and certainly don’t have the right to criticize someone who has given most of their life to music and to us. Everyone falls at times in life and all that matters is picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and knowing the people that love you. Bob’s human. He who has no sins or problems in the way they behave in life may throw the first stone. Live strong Bob!!! Heal and know the love and support that is very much alive for you!!!! (~);} Ps; and to the guy who suggest replacing Bob with Jackie Green, Go @#&/ yourself you immature selfish ass#%&@!!!!!!!! If you ever produce as much beauty and love that Bob has over the span of 4plus decades then you can judge him. Until then, GFY!!!!

timmy April 30, 2013, 22:45:13

All selfish haters fuck off. Get well Bobby. I agree they should keep the lineup with Jackie Greene. Obviously this wouldn’t be Furthur, but a Phil & Friends offshoot. But who wouldn’t want to see this?

kris young April 30, 2013, 22:56:44

Can you please tell me if there will be refunds for this show?We bought tickets for the whole family to see Bob Weir play for mothers day?

breener is a douche

Diana April 30, 2013, 23:20:50

Im happy Bobby is getting help so him and those around him don’t have to suffer. Im also hoping that the fans voice their opinions about the unprofessional communication and the refund policy of ticketfly and the promoters running BottleRock (BOB VOGT and GABE MEYERS) Not only did ticketfly refuse to refund money but the promoters will not address the fact that their MAIN act cancelled on Thursday and offer the DAY PASS Furthur fans a refund. Also, the fans that bought day passes ahead of time for $139 got screwed because these promoters decided to lower the cost of the ticket to $99 and give a sale of $69 a week ago. So, the ticket value decreased by the promoters and now Futhur cancelled. The fans of this community have been completely dedicated to the music for decades. So why are these same fans not getting a refund when we all know, the only reason we bought these tickets were to see Furthur? I wouldn’t be so upset if Furthur had a Phil in like Jackie or Warren but to straight up cancel? This has nothing to do with not having love for Bobby, but the fans deserve some love too. And we all rearranged our work schedules, finances, and so many other arrangements to attend this event. The least we could get is a response from the deep pocketed promoters who are still selling tickets to this event on May 9th with Furthur as a headliner, even after they cancelled.

cosmicbein April 30, 2013, 23:48:44

Well, the moral of the story The moral of the song
Is simply one should never be Where one does not belong
So if you see your neighbor carryin’ somethin’ Help him wih his load
And don’t go mistaking Paradise
For that home across the road Dead forever,Forever Dead u know what i’m sayin ,sayin

MiaMermaid May 1, 2013, 00:23:07

Feeling shafted not by Weir but by Bottlerock. We are the morons that bought our tix early..then they had that sale…!! 69!!! ours were 140$$$ That was wrong!! Not sure why Phil doesn’t just play with Jackie & Chris..for god sakes, their in the house!! It’s all just falling apart…

Cancel the rest of the year, phuck summer tour, you need at least 6 months of relaxation. Stop, enjoy the money you’ve earned and just relax on some island with your womann and kid. Stop and smell the roses Bobby!

dubs May 1, 2013, 08:17:57

hello Bobby, are you in there ?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home? Can you stand up?
I do believe it’s working
That’ll keep you going through the show
Come on
It’s time to go

Swami Prem Nirakar May 1, 2013, 08:47:58

Bobby, you have meant so much to me and done so much for me on so many levels since my first show at the Fillmore in ’71. Relax, have a good time. What a great incarnation we’re all having.

steve b May 1, 2013, 09:04:25

Hey Diana- well stated… BUT you are on asking JAMBASE to do something….

Erik May 1, 2013, 09:46:15

what a mess the organization of this festival has turned out to be. I think it is run by our elected officials in congress.

Richie Sassman May 1, 2013, 09:55:08

Get well soon, Bobby! Thanks for everything you’ve given us over the years. See you in Brooklyn!

oldschoolhead May 1, 2013, 09:59:47

All of you idiots spreading and buying into vicious ugly rumors make me sick. HE IS NOT IN REHAB. HE IS NOTDRYING OUT”. HE IS NOTGETTING HELP” Listen to the facts as presented to you by Phil and John and the rest of the band. 1) Phil said Bobby hurt his shoulder working out and was prescribed short term pain meds to help until he got back home 2) John said he had been playing an ultra-light (3lb) guitar because of his shoulder and that the night of the incident at the Cap he accidentally took Ambien instead of his pain meds. OBVIOUSLY he went back to SanFran, saw a doctor, had an X-Ray or an MRI and found that he needs shoulder surgery. STOP SPREADING VICIOUS LIES AND INNUENDO ABOUT A MAN YOU ALL CLAIM TO LOVE AND ADMIRE.

Tostonesfix May 1, 2013, 10:13:39

oldschoolhead you are in denial. Nobody is spreading rumors maliciously, we just care. Watch the video, consider his recent history. He may not be an addict or alcoholic but to me he’s depressed or something or whatever but something is not right with the guy. 99.9% of the people are rooting for him becuase they care. I also agree with the person who said he should take more time off. Cancel the tour and concentrate on TRI. That’s what I would recommend if he were my friend or family member.

bwahahaha May 1, 2013, 11:09:54

like Bob is really reading the messages you write, too funny!!!!!

oldschoolhead May 1, 2013, 11:10:13

@tostonesfix. I am not in denial. I saw the video just like everyone else. What I saw is 100% consistent with what happens to many people when they take Ambien. John Kadlicek confirmed that that’s what happened, so I guess you are calling John a liar and you’re calling Phil a liar as well. You ARE spreading vicious hateful rumors and I can guarantee that when it comes out that all this was was exactly what they said it was and a break so he can get surgery done on his shoulder not ONE of you will apologize for calling Bobby an addict or an alcoholic or for calling Phil and John liars or to me for being the lone voice of reason in a sea of vultures. Personally, I think you all just love a good scandal and love to take your heroes down a notch to make you all feel better about being nobodies. And what’s this nonsense about his “recent history”? His recent history is being on the road since the age of 16 and making the best music in the world for all of you UNGRATEFUL bastards.

Steal your May 1, 2013, 11:25:14

Why is “bob weir cannot perform” in the fucking title asshat…. Where are the deetz that says the cancellation was because of bob not bein able to play? We should call CNN

dk70 May 1, 2013, 11:30:02

Get Well Bob! Too many internet tough guys on here talking smack. I’m sure if any of you ever met him you’d be like teenyboppers at a Beatles concert in 65.

Get Well Soon, Bobby!

LetsGoCaps May 1, 2013, 13:27:29

Take care Bobby. All the best to you and your family.

dubs May 1, 2013, 13:32:38

Why don’t you return my calls, I think I might be carrying your child. Anyway, I thought the posting section on some dumb ass article would be the best way to contact you. I guess not, my lawyers will be in touch.
PS best wishes for a speedy recovery ! xoxo

me May 1, 2013, 13:38:16

@Steal your… perhaps it’s because the official statement included this little nugget, “Grateful Dead & Furthur Co-Founder Bob Weir, is unable to perform in any capacity for the next several weeks”... not sure how much more clear that can be… but hey, if you prefer to call accurate reporters “asshats” well… go ahead. As for what happened to Bob at the Cap, maybe it could be an accidental ambien, but it sure as heck looked like much more than that… call me what you will, but when you are tipping sideways but thinking you are upright, seems like it’s a bit more than a simple ambien messing with your world…

Deadhead May 1, 2013, 13:58:41

We may find out in a week or so what the problem with Bobby is. If he has an injured shoulder and is getting surgery, that’s good. If he is having problems with drugs and alcohol and is in rehab, that’s REAL good! As far as Furthur being a cover or tribute band, Furthur doesn’t fit either criteria. END OF STORY!!! Look it up! There are just people out there who are unjustly critical and love to spew BS. Looking forward to some great Furthur shows this summer!

norma stitz May 1, 2013, 17:51:13

Very quick to Grateful! May 2, 2013, 01:21:52

After seeing Bobby in person, in concert over the last 26 years…I can very rarely remember anything remotely like this. Where he was an issue. He’s a fucking trooper and sat up slouched over for 12 more minutes while Phil kept rolling through Unbroken Chain!!! WTF do you “need of scandal”, based on pure speculation… ungrateful trolls want? He has always been the young spry one! “With this Tom cat heart with which I’m blessed…is destruction loving’s twin? Please people…he’s 65 and busier than ever and doing the tunes justice in a lot of different formations and collaborations. Teaching the young, like minded, interested players and contemporaries the grateful dead songbook while he’s still here. He could very easily sit on a beach somewhere and do whatever he wanted. Further is the tightest they’ve ever been and they are now comfortable with John and he is playing and singing very confidently. Jerry’s dead and the grateful dead as we knew them left the stage long ago. Cool chit is happening all over and it’s an exciting period and I for one am enjoying as much of it as I can. I am grateful to still be able to see the songs I love with 2 of the heart of gold band and uncle john’s band still playing to the tide together with other quality musicians. If you don’t dig it, can’t cut bobby some slack for obviously, mistakenly taking an ambien…then listen to your old tapes and don’t go see further! No one is forcing anyone and they’ll sell out with out you just the same. They are winding down and I plan to enjoy as much of what’s left of the ride that I can! Please STFU!!

What’s going on? Where am I? Is the show over?

Trey Antastasio May 2, 2013, 14:52:07

LOL at the rehab rumors. 65 year old men just dont suddenly develop vicious habits and go to rehab. This is a shoulder thing. If bobby were going to go to rehab he would have done so in say 1980.

Katie's Habit May 2, 2013, 14:08:54

Bob, Phil and the whole Grateful Dead/Furthur family have inspired so many for decades. I pray for Bob’s speedy recovery and look forward to Furthur being back on the road in July and Bob’s acoustic shows in June. From Bob’s friends in Katie’s Habit

hayduke May 4, 2013, 20:25:46

Either way drugs, shoulder, whatever, I love the band and thank my lucky stars every time I and they are both around to share the music. Whatever is ailing Bobby I wish him a speedy recovery and he deserves to do whatever makes him happy. Took me a while after Jerry passed to get back into it, but Furthur has been a fantastic trip and I look forward to catching some more shows before it is all over. All my best to the band and the family.

Mill Valley Man May 5, 2013, 20:25:23

Bob is in rehab. I live in Mill Valley and know this to be a fact. I don’t need to share any more details but I was offended by some of the arrogant schmucks on here who for whatever reason can’t accept that Bob has drug issues that he’s working on…

Targus May 6, 2013, 14:48:54

“a bit more than a simple ambien” I don;t know what Bob is going through but if you think Ambien is simple, then you don’t know anything about Ambien. An Acquaintance of mine accidentally killed himself by taking a pain killer for an injury while on Ambien. Mixing the two could lead to a lot more than falling over.

Peaceoutken! May 6, 2013, 17:13:53

@ken Stanton: keep coming back!

Sweeney May 7, 2013, 11:15:31

Thanks for the music and thanks for 40 years. YES! We understand your need to give us this LIVE, living, breathing music… You understand our need to have it. Let’s both agree that WE can wait for you… You’ll be 90 playing Hell In A Bucket for us. Do not feel obliged to give sooo much sooo often. We know now, we can wait a lil longer between shows…. All Good Vibes and LOVE from The Northeast…...

Jim May 8, 2013, 15:47:16

Poor Bob, He’s always looked so healthy to me compared to Jerry and Phil. Falling over had to be embarassing for him but I’ve seen him save many a show with his singing and jumping around and getting the audience worked up when Jerry was having a slow night. Hope whatever it is is fixable and he returns to fine form. Somebody upthread said they wish he’d resurrect Bobby and the Midnights. Me too. Weir has so many great songs he has sung or written and I for one would love to see them sung more. I know people want to hear the Jerry tunes so we have Further, but I love Weir when he’s Weir. Like the song on Heaven Help The Fool says “ I don’t want to live forever, in the shadow of you leaving me behind” Would love to see Weir step out from the shadow of Jerry at least in a side project.

Kelly D May 23, 2013, 05:30:38

Trust me folks, it’s just lke Phil said. Bob injured his soulder at the gym. He meant to take a pain pill and took an Ambien instead. He probably had a Heinekin or two to loosen up his shoulder….. help kick the pai meds in….. no biggie, but an Ambien with a Heinekin or two…... another story all together. It’s an easy mistake to make without your “specs” on. Not sure why all the haters find it so hard to believe that Bobby would be at the gym before a show, let alone that he could hurt himself at the gym. It’s common knowledge that Bob keeps in shap, goes to the gym regularly, and even plays on an over 50 softball league. In fact, the first time I ever met Bobby, I was seeing back to back Ratdog Shows at Turningstone Casino in upstate NY. I had gotten tickets and 2 nights at te Inn for the occaion. Having never stayed overnight before, I had confused the Inn, the chea lodging a 5 minute shuttlebus ride down the road with the Lodge, the primo lodging with suites, and a gym, and sauna, etc. I just knew our room wasnt in the tower. WHile my boyfriend was getting out keys (or trying) and the porter was getting our bags, I wandered into the pool/gym area. Just whn I said to myself, “I don’t think our room is here, this has to be where the high rollers and the entertainment stays” a door from what I assume was the mens locker room opened and there was Bobby, almost walked smack into me, sweat suit and towel around his neck…..... day of the first show.
So give the guy a break, stop running your mouths and go try running on the treadmill. If you do’t like the guy so uch you feel the need to trash tlk him, what the hell are you doing at a show to begin with?
