Brooklyn’s Palmetto Park will be renamed Adam Yauch Park in honor of the late Beastie Boy, who passed away a year ago. The park is located in the southern part of the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, where Yauch—who was also known by the stage name MCA—grew up. Yauch passed away on May 4, 2012 at the age of 47 after a three-year battle with cancer. He helped found the Beastie Boys back in 1979.

Surviving Beastie Boys Adam Horowitz (Ad-Rock) and Michael Diamond (Mike D) will join Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and other officials at the park—located at Columbia St. and Atlantic Ave.—for a ceremony honoring Yauch tomorrow at 11am.

As previously reported, Diamond and Horowitz are working on a “multidimensional” memoir that they hope to release in 2015. You can read the 2007 Relix cover story on the Beastie Boys here.
