Tom Waits joined The Rolling Stones onstage at Oakland, CA’s Oracle Arena last night. Waits—who rarely tours—emerged six songs into the Stones’ extended set for a cover of Willie Dixon’s “Little Red Rooster.” Besides an unexpected performance of the song during a warm-up show at Bondy, France’s Planet Live on November 8, the Stones had not performed the blues chestnut since 2003.

So far every proper show on the Stones’ 50 & Counting tour has featured at least one special guest. More mainstream collaborators like Gwen Stefani and Keith Urban both sat in with the Stones in Los Angeles on Friday night. Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, The Black Keys, Lady Gaga, Florence Welch, John Mayer and several others joined the veteran rock band onstage during the tour’s 2012 leg.

Last night’s show also boasted the second-ever live version of the Stones’ 1980 hit “Emotional Rescue”—a number the band debuted live on Friday—as well as former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor’s now-regular cameo on “Midnight Rambler.” The San Jose State University Choraliers also provided the intro to “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”
