Matt Berringer, Bryce Dessner and Aaron Dessner of The National participated in an Ask Me Anything question and answer session on Reddit today. The band discussed a number of things, but of particular interest to us was the revelation that members of the group are working on a charity album involving the music of the Grateful Dead with a number of other musicians, one of whom may or may not be Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon.

The National have been talking about doing a Grateful Dead tribute compilation since at least 2011, so hopefully this is sign that the project will finally come to fruition. Band members Aaron Dessner, Bryan Devendorf and Scott Devendorf also joined Bob Weir and some of their Brooklyn indie rock friends last year for the “The Bridge Session,” a special concert at TRI Studios that was curated by HeadCount. The one-off band performed a number of Dead tunes, including “Uncle John’s Band,” which you can watch here.
