Jim James played a private solo show at the Actors Theatre in Louisville, KY last night. The gig was a benefit for the Drepung Gomang Institute, a Tibetan Buddhist Center in Louisville. James was joined by his friend Kevin Ratterman (formerly of Wax Fang) for most of the set, which consisted of tune’s from a variety of James’ projects, as well a good bit of his recent solo material. The show started off with “Exploding,” a song from his debut solo album Regions of Light and Sound of God, which was followed by the My Morning Jacket tracks “Wonderful,” “Welcome Home” and “Bermuda Highway.” James and Ratterman knocked out Monsters of Folk’s “Right Place” and “Losin Yo Head” in the middle of the show, before ending the set with a few of James’ solo tunes like “Know Til Now,” “State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U),” “God’s Love” and “A New Life.” James and Ratterman then wrapped up the show with encore takes on the New Multitudes’ “Changing World” and Monsters of Folk’s “His Master Voice.”

The Drepung Gomang Institute will be hosting a presentation by the Dalai Lama tonight at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, KY.
