Toots Hibbert walked off stage after being hit on the head by a large glass vodka bottle that was thrown by a man in the crowd during the Toots & the Maytals set at Dominion Riverrock Festival in Richmond, VA on Saturday night. The reggae singer received a bloody forehead laceration and was treated at the hospital before being released later in the night. According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, police have identified a 19-year old suspect—William C. Lewis—who has been charged with aggravated assault (a felony) and public intoxication (a misdemeanor). Festival organizers have said that they believe the bottle was stolen from one of the mixed beverage stands and was not brought in from outside the vent.

A statement on the Toots & the Maytals Facebook page from earlier today reads:

Toots would like to thank all his friends, fans and family who have reached out to him since the bottle throwing incident in Richmond Saturday Night. After 7 seven stitches and a little rest he was able to perform a wonderful show in Westhampton NY tonite as the 1st show of his acoustic tour. The youth who threw the bottle for no apparent reason is in custody and being charged. Being the soldier he is he will hopefully be able to continue the tour. Check tootsandthemaytals.com for upcoming dates.
BLESS

Toots & the Maytals will continue with the second show of their acoustic tour at Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis, MD tonight. A video of the bottle throwing incident can be viewed above, with the act taking place around 4:25.
