George Porter Jr. had an eventful day yesterday. The legendary Meters bassist got started as the officiant for the wedding of Karen Dugan and Josh Raskin, two frequent patrons of the Brooklyn Bowl who decided to hold their reception at the music venue. Porter also performed at the event, along with Lettuce and the Nigel Hall Band.

Later in the evening, Porter sat in with Lettuce during their public gig at the Brooklyn Bowl. He first took the stage at the end of the band’s set to help Nigel Hall on vocals. While his contribution wasn’t that significant on those tunes, Porter definitely used the powers that were vested in him during the encore, when he showed off his chops on The Meters classic “Africa.”
