Members of Galactic Join Dave Matthews Band Onstage

Dave Matthews Band hosted their annual multi-night run at Saratoga Springs, NY’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Saturday and Sunday nights. Galactic opened both shows and, on Sunday night, members of the New Orleans band joined Dave Matthews Band onstage. Near the end of Dave Matthews Band’s show, Galactic saxophonist Ben Ellman and touring Galactic trombonist/Rebirth Brass Band member Corey Henry sat in on “Can’t Stop.” It marked the first time either musician has joined DMB onstage, though both Ellman and Henry have performed with DMB horn players Jeff Coffin and Rashawn Ross in a variety of settings. The evening also featured Dave Matthews Band’s first “JTR” since July 13, 2010 as well as their first take on “Recently” since July 8, 2010.

Dave Matthews Band will perform at Toronto’s Molson Canadian Amphitheatre on Tuesday.

I am the only one who thinks the DMB are one tired act?

Dave Mathews is a tool.

Very original to hate DMB. Yes, they suck ass now, but only because of Dave. In the nineties, when most DMB haters were born, they were writing great music as a band, and killing it live on a nightly basis. Carter Beauford is one of the greatest drummers of all time to this day. If you don’t know that, you don’t know shit about drumming. They are still great musicians despite their output of adult contemporary garbage over the last decade.

stanton moore out-drums carter in the first 5 mintues of a galactic show.
pornographic drumming at its best

@burning-beard: that is an apples to oranges comparison. Galactic’s music is nothing like DMB’s straight forward pop. In a jazz drumming style, they are very comparable. They are both ridiculously great drummers. Stanton is in a much better band.

Moore runs 5k Decathalons around Carter, hands down

As a drummer, my opinion is that while Stanton Moore is one great drummer, Carter Beauford is more technically proficient. Of course, at the end of the day, it’s all about your tastes. On lists of “Greatest Drummers,” you’ll always find guys like Neil Peart, Keith Moon, John Bonham etc., but you rarely see guys like Tony Williams, Max Roach, Billy Cobham, etc. To each his/her own.

Speak ill of others and ill will follow you. If you have a particular dislike for a person, place or thing, it is your personal preference and not something to be used as an attention-getter for your depraved souls. Dave Matthews fronts his own band. Do you? Do you even back a band? Compare drummers in a forum on the drumworld website. Did anyone even take notice of the great shot my friend, Allison Murphy, captured? She is tops in her field!

I totally agree with capecodcynic! Especially regarding the talent of photographer, Allison ‘Ruth Rocks’ Murphy. She is one of the best in the field of photography, which also includes, Dino Perrucci.
Hats off to them for captuing the musical moments!

Thanx, Karen!
