On Thursday night, The M & Ms performed at New York’s (Le) Poisson Rouge. The new group is a collaboration between a few scene regulars: keyboardist John Medeski, singer/guitarist Papa Mali, Galactic bassist Rob Mercurio and Galactic drummer Stanton Moore. In addition, guitarist Will Bernard, a longtime member of Moore’s trio, sat in on a few songs near the end of the show, including “Gator Bait,” “Paranoid,” “Mary Jane,” “I’m A Ram,” “How Many More Times” and “Teacher.” 13-year-old guitar prodigy Bobby Faltron also appeared on a cover of Huddie Ledbetter’s “Bottle Up and Go.” The show also included memorable takes on Jimmy Cliff’s “The Harder They Come” and Dr John’s “I Walk on Gilded Splinters,” among others.
