Alex Bleeker & the Freaks celebrated the release of their new Woodsist album How Far Away with a performance at Brooklyn, NY’s Knitting Factory last night. Though the band focused on material from their release, the jam-oriented group also throw in a few covers. During their set, the Freaks covered the Grateful Dead’s “Brown-Eyed Women.” They also offered an excited take on Kool & the Gang’s “Celebration” during their encore. Bleeker has previously covered the Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleloo.”

Bleeker and the rest of his main group “Real Estate”: http://realestatetheband.com/news/ will play a hometown show in Ridgewood, NJ on June 30. The Glenn Mercer Band will open.
