Trey Anastasio told PBS NewsHour that the members of Phish have been working together on the lyrics for their upcoming studio album. According to Rolling Stone, the news came yesterday via a tweet from PBS NewsHour producer Mike Melia. The album will be the band’s first since their 2009 release, Joy.

Melia also shared another quote from Anastasio, who said, “A lot of the people that come see us have been coming for 20, 30 years . . . And I know them. A lot I don’t know by name, but there are people that I look out and see that I really genuinely feel a connection to . . . people who stand like 10 rows back and dance that I recognize.”

As previously reported, Trey Anastasio was recently interviewed by PBS Senior Correspondent Jeffrey Brown while rehearsing for his performance at the National Symphony Orchestra. The feature on Anastasio will air in early July, just before Phish kicks off their summer tour.
