A slew of guests sat in with Gov’t Mule at Red Bank, NJ’s Count Basie Theatre last night. At the end of the quartet’s first set, longtime Gov’t Mule collaborator Hook Herrera supplied harmonica on both “Smokestack Lightning” and “Lay Your Burden Down.” Then, Nicki Bluhm, who opened the night with her band The Gramblers, and former Robert Randolph keyboardist John Ginty sat in on a cover of The Great Society written, Jefferson Airplane adopted “Somebody To Love.”

The collaborations continued as the set rolled on. Ginty and Herrera performed on “32/20 Blues” while Herrera, Ginty and Gramblers guitarist Deren Nay all sat in on “The Hunter.” All three musicians remained onstage as Gramblers/ALO bassist Steve Adams filled in for Mule’s Jorgen Carlsson on “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” and the end portion of “The Hunter.” Finally, the the night drew to a close, Herrera and Ginty returned one final time for a cover of John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero” during Gov’t Mule’s encore.

Warren Haynes also joined the Grambers for their songs “Burnt” and “Jetplane” earlier in the evening.

Gov’t Mule and Primus will share the stage at Charlottesville, VA’s nTelos Wireless Pavilion this evening. Meanwhile, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers will open for The B-52’s at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre on Thursday. The show was moved from Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Bowl after Guns N Roses announced a surprise show at the venue.
