Trey Anastasio Goes to The Tonys, Says Phish Will Play Hands on a Hardbody Tunes

Trey Anastasio has revealed that Phish will be playing some songs from his musical Hands on a Hardbody on their upcoming tour. The Associated Press reports that Anastasio confirmed this development on the red carpet of last night’s Tony Awards. As previously reported, Anastasio and co-composer Amanda Green were nominated for a Tony for Best Original Score (Music And/Or Lyrics) Written For The Theatre.

While Anastasio came back from the awards show empty handed, it appears that he’s getting some new-found respect from his children, who are big musical theater fans. Anastasio told an AP reporter that his teenage daughters “were completely unimpressed with the rock thing. Not impressed at all. This was huge for them.”

Anastasio also stated that he was not sure which songs from the musical would find their way into Phish’s sets. Phish has already performed two songs from the musical, “Burn That Bridge” and “My Problem Right There.”

Show tunes? I guess I’d rather hear those than a 30 min “Time Turns Elastic”.

LOL even his daughters thinks his band sucks!!!

KernelForbin June 10, 2013, 14:27:45

We’ve already seen Burn That Bridge and My Problem Right There played by Phish (and TAB). They work well enough. Not sure any others should make the cut, though.

@dankorator… wait, so what you’re saying is that Phish isn’t the stuff that 14 y/o girls dream of? Warm the presses, get the news out… young teen girls aren’t into Phish… next thing you’ll try to convince all of us that instead of Phish, they like boy bands and Justin Beiber…

my friend my friend, the clever ruse
persuasion through his thoughts peruse
a hidden relic from his past
that wasn’t there when he looked last
he feels it ticking like a bomb
feeding fear, assaulting calm
takes the object, starts the game
moves it closer to the flame my friend my friend, the clever ruse
my friend, my friend, he lights the fuse

Trey has TWO teenage daughters?? I may have to hit up a Phish show this summer Love Bobby’s

BC June 17, 2013, 21:17:53

I’m glad Trey enjoyed his Broadway experience. I wish I could have seen a performance. However, the idea of Phish performing show tunes this summer disturbs me. Not longing forward to hearing those songs pop up during the tour.

Guyute666 June 20, 2013, 20:23:55

Trey will play whatever the fuck he wants and it’ll be awesome. New music is fantastic and after the stale setlists phish did last summer some new songs making the cut would not be a bad thing (note i said stale setlists, their jams were better than they have been in a long time but song selection from night to night was kinda meh)

dragen June 21, 2013, 13:00:15

Fuck this phish reunion. Widespread will be adding some sick tunes to there setlist this summer. That will blow this Tranny Stage Show out of the water!!!!

WSP SUX June 28, 2013, 20:48:03

LOL!
