A group of New Orleans filmmakers have launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for a documentary about local legends Papa Grows Funk. The band recently announced that they will be going on an indefinite hiatus after 13 years together, with their “Last Jam” coming up on June 29. The band consists of John “Papa” Gros, June Yamagushi, Marc Pero, Jason Mingeldorff and Jacob “Jellybean” Alexander.

Over the past few months, ABIS Productions have filmed shows, interviewed band members and other New Orleans musicians and worked to capture the story behind Papa Gros Funk. Now they’re hoping to raise $25,000 to complete the project, The Papa Grows Funkumentary. The filmmakers need money for a variety of production and distribution needs, and they’re offering a number of goodies for people who donate to their campaign.
