Kim Deal, longtime bassist for alternative rock pioneer The Pixies, has quit the band. Remaining members Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering released statement announcing her departure, while also wishing her the best and leaving the door open for her return.

No specific reason was given for the split, but Deal has been focusing on her other group, The Breeders, more in recent years. The Pixies first broke up in 1993, but the group returned for a reunion tour in 2004 and had been together ever since. They last toured in 2011, and their last original music release came in 2004.

Francis, Santiago and Lovering’s statement reads:

We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.
