Bob Weir made a couple of surprise guest appearances this weekend in California. The guitarist first took the stage on Saturday afternoon during Jonathan Wilson’s set at the Huichica Music Festival in Sonoma. Weir joined the psych-rocker, who he has collaborated with frequently in recent years, for a few Grateful Dead tunes like “Dark Star,” “West L.A. Fadeaway” and “Truckin’.”

Weir also sat in with Jason Crosby and Friends during last night’s performance at the Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley. The band, which featured Dave Schools, Jeff Chimenti, Jay Lane and Leslie Mendelson, welcomed Weir for a full set. The group got going with a cover of The Beatles’ “Blackbird” sandwiched between “Lazy River Road,” and they finished up the set with “Jack Straw” followed by the classic “China Cat Sunflower” into “I Know You Rider.”

As previously reported, Weir has been making a comeback over the past week or so. He first returned with a performance at the Sweetwater Music Hall last week, which was followed by his “Weir Here Over There” gig at Terrapin Crossroads a few days later. Weir will be back on the road on June 26 when he kicks off a run of solo shows in West Palm Beach, FL.
