The National to Begin Work on Grateful Dead Album This Summer

The National has offered a bit more insight into their much-discussed Grateful Dead tribute album. Last month the group’s Matt Berringer, Bryce Dessner and Aaron Dessner participated in an Ask Me Anything question and answer session on Reddit and confirmed that the project is still in motion. The album which Billboard reports is currently titled Dead Hot is in motion for a 2014 release through the Red Hot Organization. Dessner told, “We’re just getting going this summer, probably and a bunch of friends in bands, and then some surprising guests, are gonna hang out and smoke a lot of pot and record Grateful Dead songs.”

Justin Vernon is one of the musicians slated to take part in the project. National bassist Scott Devendorf showed off his Grateful Dead roots at Bonnaroo by sporting a tie-dye Grateful Dead shirt.

God forbid anyone says anything “negative” about the current state of the Grateful Dead extended lifeline. Jeesh! Chill people. The National and Bob Weir is not an AWESOME thing. It is what it is. Europe ’72 is AWESOME!!

The National plays Dead = Ugh!

Really? June 19, 2013, 14:04:49

Did he have to mention pot? The dead are pure Americana and this ass hole relating it to drugs is just stupid and makes him look stupid. It’s people like him that have made it difficult for the dead to get the true recognition they deserve.

Maybe they can hang with Weir more and then fall down in the middle of the song!
Im a big Deadhead but there is nothing appealing about the National to me. I’ve seen them twice and they sucked both times.

grateful dead tribute album w/ Bobby and the National? sounds horrible… the grateful dead would probably get the recognition they deserve “Really?^,” if bobby and all his clown act musicians weren’t trying to carry some busted ass torch of the grateful dead and falling over(literally) in the process…. I want to say the music is up for interpretation, but fucking IMPROVE it…. don’t make it worse and beat it like a dead horse with a stick… the only shit that holds a candle to good grateful dead today is about 10% of Phil’s lineups when he gets all-stars on board … I can only imagine how lame this GD shit is gonna be when phil is gone and brian lesh tries to throw a gd reunion with some shitty band called mexicali blues or something…..

Good lord you people are whiners and complainers. If you don’t like what Bobby and Co are up to than don’t listen. If you are hatin’ on The National, fine, so be it. If you don’t like pot, don’t freakin smoke it but for gods sake STFU!

I will not shut up. I love the comment on Brian lesh and a band called Mexicali blues. I am willing to bet some money that this is not far off. I mean besides the terrapin band name he has another crappy tribute band in him. What the deal with every song containing the word mountain he writes.

I highly recommend checking out the video released of Bob Wier and the National playing in Bobby’s recording space. IT IS AWSOME! if you are a dead head you will enjoy

the national best band in the land now. Really talentedpros and perfectionists. You need to see their light show. Saw them twice and they were great. Album will be great
